Best. Cake. Ever.

Friday, January 19th, 2007 | Fun With Teh Intarweb | 4 Comments

Ok, so this cake is not supposed to look like that (and I’m sure Aunt Elsa is mightily confused), but this has to be the nerdiest cake ever.

(Note to Steelbuddha: Idea for the next programming language we try to float past Scotty: Cake.)

Tag. I’m it.

Fred tagged me, so I must reveal my secrets.

Five Facts About the Czelt:

  • If left to my own devices, I will sleep at least 10 hours a day. I will also likely stay up until about 2am. I’m perfectly ok with sleeping through mornings.
  • When I’m on vacation, I get irritable if I can’t watch the news on TV in the morning. When I’m at home, I never do, though I check news sites throughout the day or read the paper. I feel anxious if I don’t get at least a little news every day.
  • I almost never eat leftovers. If I eat something one day, I don’t want to eat it again for about another week. Exceptions to this are pizza (though not pizza leftovers), cereal, toast and bacon. I can eat any of those foods for days on end.
  • I much prefer animals to people. Not that I don’t like certain people a great deal, but as a whole, I will choose animals over people any time.
  • I’ve known since I was a kid myself that I don’t want children. Some people find this odd. I never have.

I’ve got plenty of other secrets, but those are the ones I’m revealing. So there.

And who shall I tag with this? Hmm…

Steelbuddha, ‘coz he loves the memes. Oh, yes he does.
BB, ‘coz she’s chock full of interesting tidbits about her life.
Brendan, ‘coz sometimes these things just need an Irish perspective.
MimiDynagirl, ‘coz I bet she’s got some great secrets to tell.
And Vidiot, though I’m sure he’ll wish I didn’t.

Sherri, I’ll save you from having to do this again. I think twice (three times?) is plenty.

Way to go, Amir!

The best part is, they’re calorie-free!

Did I say “calorie-free”? I meant “nutrient-free”.

Still, this video of a Nanjing street artist making sugar animals makes me want one. A monkey one.

Dec. 14 is Monkey Day! Had I known, I’d have put up a Monkey Day tree or something.

Is it coincidence that it falls on the same day as my work anniversary? I don’t think so.

Leslie Harpold has her annual online advent calendar posted. Check back each day for new goodies.

Little bit o’ this and that

The brain’s a little mushy today. Yesterday was a long day and I didn’t get much sleep, so I’m not feeling terribly verbose today. That doesn’t mean I don’t have a few charming little links to share with you all, though. So here’s a short list of goodies:

- Leslie Harpold puts together a wonderful little online Advent calendar every year. Obviously I’m not big into the whole Advent thing, but I really enjoy her work and it’s fun to get a virtual goodie every day. If you’ve got any holiday memories you’d like to share with her for that calendar, she’s taking submissions again. You could be famous. Ok, maybe not famous, but more well-known than you are now.

- The Helsinki Complaints Choir. Don’t let the 8-minute length scare you. It’s really a couple of minutes shorter and well worth watching. Makes me want to take up singing again.

- Your Name on Toast. All profits go to charity. I may just have to do this. In fact, why didn’t I think of this first? It’s toast. It’s Sharpies. I regularly am in possession of both of those items.

Most of the folks who make the Top Ten Lamest Superheroes of All Time completely deserve inclusion in the list. But Dogwelder? Dogwelder may possibly be the most awesome superhero I’ve ever heard of.

Hey, I am from Wisconsin.

But in no way do I say “pop.”

What American accent do you have?
Your Result: The Inland North

You may think you speak “Standard English straight out of the dictionary” but when you step away from the Great Lakes you get asked annoying questions like “Are you from Wisconsin?” or “Are you from Chicago?” Chances are you call carbonated drinks “pop.”

The Northeast
The Midland
The South
The West
North Central

I love the tags on the Amazon page for Kevin Federline’s album.

Vogon poetry. Ouch. And really, people shouldn’t insult the Vogons so badly.

I’ve got three patron saints. Need a patron saint yourself? Check the list. I’m sure you’ll find one.

Or, if you prefer, check the list of saints’ names and see what your namesake’s been up to. Me? I’m watchin’ over Canadians, Detroit Michigan, childless people and equestrians, to name a few.

Mesmerized again

Remember those wonderful polyorama toys from days gone by? They were a series of cards with pictures on them that could be placed side-by-side in any order you choose to form an ever-changing landscape. I can’t remember if we had a set of them or if someone I knew did, but I remember playing with them and thinking they were quite the cat’s meow.

Well, now there’s an online version. Better still, my friend John Ralston is one of the contributors to the project. (Those of you who have been in my dining room have seen some of his art. The piece atop the highboy is his.) The funny thing is, I’d seen John’s flickr posts of the artwork, but didn’t know what it was all about until I saw the MeFi thread about it. Best yet, if you go to John’s polyorama flickr sets, there’s information on ordering a set, printed on Moo Cards. (And if you haven’t seen Moo Cards yet, they’re soooooo worth it. I just got my sample batch last night and I’m already planning my next order.)

Liars. Big, fat liars.

I thought I’d be like the cool kids and play that “How Many of Me” game on the internets. But it lies.

There are 0 people in the U.S. with the last name Stibor.

And then Christyl tried it.

There are 0 people in the U.S. with the first name Christyl.

So wait. Maybe Wisconsin and Illinois are now in Canada. That might explain it.
