Cash Cab update

Friday, September 28th, 2007 | Bloggity goodness | 3 Comments

Tony put up a clip of his Cash Cab segment. (Awesomeness, since I missed the first two questions when it aired.)

Oh, ok. I’ll jump on the memewagon

I know everyone and their brother has blogged the Maps for Us site, but for those of you who may have missed it, I post it here. I’m already bored with the Miss Teen South Carolina thing (which I still don’t quite get the fuss over), but this site is actually quite wonderful.

Quite accurate in the pillow region

(Do spend time prowling around Strange Maps. It’s a wonderful site.)

Patience is a virtue

Ok. I lied. Monday my brain was just too fuzzy to write anything and Tuesday was a flurry of activity, trying to catch up from a week away from work. Gonna try to post something today. Tomorrow at the latest.

I don’t know if this is as interesting to people outside the design world…

*tap, tap* Oh, hi, everyone. Sorry it’s been a little slow around here this week. Holiday, busy at work, etc.

Found a fun new blog to read, though. Brendan, you’ll love this one. A Librarian’s Guide to Etiquette

Have yourselves a lovely weekend. I’ll be spending mine swearing at the heat & humidity and being all happy with myself for putting the a/c unit in the window last night. I’ll also be going to Summerfest on Saturday night to catch Old 97’s and Son Volt. (Summerfest when it’s 90 and humid. Yeah. That’ll be a good time.) If I haven’t melted, I’ll catch you all on Monday.

Now we are five

Believe it or not, this little blog turns 5 on Sunday. I’d write something pithy for the occasion, but I’m tapped out this week, so I’m taking the lazy blogger’s way out and just doing a highlights post. (Actually, it’s probably not any easier than just writing something new. There’s little that’s more tedious than sifting through five years’ worth of your own blogging.)

For those of you just joining us here in the People’s Republic of Czeltistan, here’s are some little milestones and other goodies from the last five years:

Tales from Czeltistan

Random amusements

Thanks, everybody for stopping by over the last five years. I started this thing solely for my amusement and it still entertains me greatly to know that other people come to visit and that I’ve made a rather substantial number of real-life friends through the blog.

Better late than never

Life has been busy lately, here in Czeltistan. As such, I’ve missed out on a couple of congratulations that I should pass along:

1) Congrats to Grizzly Dad on the ever-so-adorable Baby Grizzly. Hope you enjoyed your sleep while you could get any.

2) Congrats to Linus on the new, and also quite adorable, niece and on the new housing purchase.

How very adult-like of both of you. :)

And we’re back.

Mr. m@ had to give the server gnomes a little kicking, but we’re up and running again. Thanks, m@.

I love this site

Passive-aggressive notes from roommates, neighbors, coworkers and strangers

I’ve been known to leave passive-aggressive notes before on occasions when I can’t figure out who the culprit in the situation is. But it’s pretty much a given that if I catch you doing something that pisses me off, I’ll lay the smack down. That goes double if I’ve had a couple beers first. It’s hard work, being the Minister of Righteous Anger, but there are official standards I must uphold.

Yay! Laurie Lindeen’s new book is out. Sounds like it’ll be a fun read. There’s a part of me that wishes it was a new CD, but a book is just as good. (And a book that spawns a new website that includes a blog is even better, so I’m happy.)

Maybe people would speak the English gooder if we had these here

Wonderfully illustrated grammar textbooks from Canada. I think the ones from this post — especially the first two — are my favorites.

Make sure you check out the rest of the yesway blog, too. Good stuff there.

Linus defies gravity a little

Remember back when I posted about a charity parachute jump my friend Linus was doing? Well, he finally did it. I’ll let him tell you about it. It’s more entertaining that way.

Good job, Linus. You’re a far braver person than I am. I have a hard enough time getting into a plane. Not a chance in hell I’m jumping out of one (even with a parachute) unless there’s no safer way of reaching the ground.

When do I get my cape?

I love the webcomic xkcd (even if I don’t always get the math jokes), and this one in particular cracked me up but good. So I was tickled when I found a link to this photo on this morning.

Good one, Cory.

Back in the day…

The Czelt stumbled across the blog of one Miss Information, tormented library clerk. She thoroughly enjoys reading of Miss I’s exploits, even if they are written in third person which usually annoys the Czelt, but for some reason, does not in this instance.

Sorry for all the downtime

Apparently the hamsters over at the server farm have been refusing to run on their wheels.

Or something.

Dunno, really. I just know that the site’s been going down a lot lately. Luckily, The Powers That Be have been whipping the hamster keepers as soon as anyone notices it’s down. We’re hoping the hamster strike can be ended soon and uptime will reign again. Meantime, my apologies if you’ve been trying to visit and couldn’t.

Linus can fly. We hope.

My friend Linus is doing a parachute jump to benefit Amnesty International.

Per Linus:

I’m doing a sponsored parachute jump in aid of Amnesty International. The theory, sound as it is, is that I will break both my legs landing, so that someone in a repressive regime doesn’t get one broken deliberately.

It’s a good cause, really, I think. This is the website, and if you feel like donating there is a credit card yoke, so you people I know who don’t even live in the country have no excuse. NONE. Apart from loathing me.

But I’d really appreciate it. And more than that, it’d be doing something to help make the world a tiny bit better. Or a lot better if the chute doesn’t open.

If you’ve got a couple spare dineros laying around, please consider donating. It’s a good cause. And someone gets to shove Linus out of a plane. (Though I don’t think any of us will, even if we fork over quite a bit of dosh.)

I have been remiss

I can’t believe I haven’t sent any blog love over to Aunt Mary Nation (though, indirectly, I have sent blog fodder).

Here’s a little background on freelancefred’s dear departed Aunt Mary.

A note to my family: I’m only encouraging this as a virtual thing. You’ve all seen my apartment. I need no more useless crap in it. I have enough of my own, thanks.
