Someone’s got girl trouble

Wednesday, July 12th, 2006 | Bloggity goodness | 2 Comments

I’m just gonna go out on a limb here and guess that the recent search hits for “how to make a girl happy by sayin good stuff to them” and “questions not to ask a girl” led the same poor guy to this li’l ol’ blog.

Good luck, man. Sounds like you’re gonna need it.

Almost time for blog kindergarten

Thursday, June 22nd, 2006 | Bloggity goodness | 10 Comments

Saturday, this li’l ol’ blog turns 4. That’s like 28 in dog years. Ok, no it’s not. That whole 1 year for humans = 7 years for dogs thing isn’t exactly how it works. (It’s more like 10.5 years for the first two years, then 4 years every year thereafter. So this blog’s really 29.) (Are you confused yet?)

I’ll be out doin’ stuff on Saturday, not hangin’ around here, wearing silly paper hats and baking a cake for my blog or something silly like that. So we’re celebrating a day early. (No, I’m not wearing a silly paper hat on Friday either.)

Thanks, y’all for stopping by all these years. I had no idea anyone would actually come seek out my ramblings, and yet here you are. Gives my heart all sorts of warm fuzzies.

Ok. Well, it looks like I’m in that MKE blog contest thing again. I think you all know the drill by now. (And, once again, I found out I was in it through my referrer logs. Surprise contests! What fun!)

This time, though, there’s a twist: I’m up against friend & coworker BBLinks (who totally deserves this award more than I do, as she has not be neglecting her blog in the same cavalier fashion I have).

Also: Hi, new people. Have a bit of a look around. Don’t mind the dust.

More bloggity coworkers

I’m a bit pokey in posting this, but another of my coworkers — Flash guru Timmy — has a new blog: Oneplusinfinity. Check it out.

This is not a metaphor. Goddamn, this is real.

If you’ve ever had to deal with uninvited rodents in your living space (R, I’m lookin’ at you), you’ll definitely get a kick out of Freelancefred’s Squirrel Wars. It’s highly tactical, comes with illustrations and makes a highly entertaining read.

(Via Encyclopedia Hanasiana. And yes, I’m amused I finally got to use that Shellac lyric as a title.)

That’s the spirit!

I heard a Leonard Cohen song come up on the studio’s stereo here at work and it made me think of this fantastic blog entry of Vidiot’s from last April. (And yes, it was the same song on the stereo, and yes, I was wishing I knew m@’s revised lyrics so I could sing along.)

Woo! I’m rich!!

Oh, wait. Decimal point’s too far to the left. Never mind. *sigh*

My blog is worth $11,290.80.
How much is your blog worth?

It’s true. People will buy anything.

Naturally, there are people who will make strange products for those people. And so, of course, there’s someone out there to blog it. Strange New Products is that blog. I don’t know where they’re finding this stuff, but they’ve got some lovely products in their collection, including: Toilet Buddies, stylish adult dinner bibs, a purr detector (which is wholly unnecessary for one of my cats, as you can hear her purring from the next room) and chili pepper face wash. Strange stuff, indeed.

Maybe I should learn to knit

I have more than enough sweaters and scarves, but what I don’t have is a collection of knit Dawn of the Dead characters.

I think I like these almost as much as sock monkeys.

Check out her blog, too for more of her work and fun musings.

I had nothing to do at all with any of the funny involved in this post. I’ve just heard a lot of things about this film recently, and I’m passing the laughs along to you.

Five things I’d ask every Supreme Court nominee if I sat on the Senate Judiciary Committee

And in case you’ve never visited Merlin’s site before, check out his other Five Things lists. Many chuckles are contained within.

Bunnies. And beer. Together at last.

I’ve been reading The Drunken Lagomorph for a few weeks now and she amuses me greatly. So much so, in fact, that I think you all should go over there and check out her site.

In reading over her 100 Things list I found myself thinking it’s probably a good thing we’re not in the same city. I suspect we’d cause great amounts of drunken trouble together. (And as far as #13 on that 100 Things list is concerned, I have to say that sometimes hockey is standup comedy.)

And speaking of 1000

My pre-1000th post conversation with m@:

CG: Ooh. One post away from 1000. I’d better come up with something good.

m@: ooh, then you can go into syndication and retire…oh wait, you’re not a tv show

CG: But I could be.

m@: oh so true. of course you’d be a Joss Whedon creation.

CG: And I’d be cancelled almost immediately by Fox.

m@: but your fans would rally. and you’d live forever on the internet—where you already are, so why bother?

CG: Laziness pays off once again!

m@: there. you’re a successful cult tv show without all the problems of ever actually appearing on tv

CG: Hooray!

m@: can i have your autograph?

Man, I’d love to hear the stories behind some of these.

Also, T-Rex is my new hero for his reply to liz’s rule.

The Bacon Show – one bacon recipe per day, every day, forever.

Mmmm. Bacon.

Update: Found this, too.

I won the Swapatorium caption contest! Sparklers all around!!

That actually reminds me that I wanted to post about Swapatorium. I am so smitten with this site. Anyone who’s ever been near my apartment or had the misfortune of helping me move knows that I have a bit of a thing for ephemera. Swapatorium helps me indulge my jones without actually adding any more stuff to my collection. Every day, she posts another wonderful find from whatever estate sales, thrift stores or flea markets she attends. This recently-posted 1950s space card game is a favorite of mine. (How could you not fall in love with that artwork?) And on my very first visit to the site, she happened to be featuring this fantastic do not disturb sign from an old Milwaukee hotel. You never know what you’ll find at the site — old photos, amateur artwork, ticket stubs, silly pottery… all of the fabulous little finds that are the essence of Americana. It’s all the fun of making a great estate sale find without the hassle of having to get up so bleedin’ early in the morning. My kinda place.

Well, that’s fantastic. I am now the number one Google result for “squirrel venting”.

Poor squirrels.

Ok, now you’re scaring me

Tuesday, July 12th, 2005 | Bloggity goodness | 3 Comments

Two recent search referals to this blog: “squirrel venting” and “what death feels like.”

Squirrel venting doesn’t even lead to a page here. (Well, sadly, it does now.)

Speaking of July babies…

I’m a bad Czelt. I forgot that today was July 6, which means that I forgot to wish Linus a happy birthday. Damn!

Pints will be tipped in your honor this weekend, Linus. Rest assured.

Birthday greetings a day early to everyone’s favorite Leptard keeper, Brendan. I hope the birthday fairy brings you everything your little heart desires.

Stop on over to his blog and wish him well. Give him a little pat on the back for the job news, as well.
