I’m back

Wednesday, April 30th, 2003 | General | No Comments

The trip was good. San Fran was fun (as always) and my friends’ wedding was lovely and fun.

Just catching up on a few things. I’ll try to get some posts up here tomorrow or Friday.

Oh, ok. One more post.

From the CraigsList “Best of” site comes this little gem: The Bar.

Some time off

Monday, April 21st, 2003 | General | No Comments

Between work and vacation stuff, I’m gonna be pretty busy for the next week & a half or so, which means I’m not going to have much time to do updates here. So, let’s just figure I won’t be updating until next Tuesday or Wednesday. If something gets posted in the meantime, consider it a little bonus.

Happy Bunny Day

Thursday, April 17th, 2003 | General | No Comments

Since it’s that time of year when the Great Rabbit rises from the dead and hides egg-shaped loaves of unleavened bread and matzo balls out for the kiddies, I won’t be near a computer much this weekend, so there won’t be any entries until Monday.

Ok, so it’s not so much about the whole “holidays” thing as it is more about me being lazy. But happy holidays to you anyhow, if’n you celebrate ‘em. Me, I’m just in it for the food. (I believe that’s the motto of the Agnostics Association: “We’re just in it for the food.”)

Like I need more toys

Thursday, April 17th, 2003 | General | No Comments

Yeah, I know — it’s getting to be cliche to like Japanese toys, but some of this stuff is super cool. I mean, c’mon — a Hello Kitty shredder? Or better still, Hello Kitty toilet paper! How about your very own Engrish sign? Great stuff. (Jonmc, they have a whole section on food.)

And I’m still convinced all Japanese letter t-shirts in the ’80s said things like this. (You’ll have to go look that up yourself. It’s on this page.

Kinda like geocaching, but older

Strange, with my love of puzzles and such, that I had never heard of letterboxing before, except in relation to films. It sounds like a fun hobby, though not as popular here in the States. Luckily for me, there’s a letterbox location right near where I work. As soon as the weather is a little nicer, I think I’ve got a lunchtime activity.

Cats in Hats

Ok, so this page is in Japanese, which means you can’t read it. That doesn’t mean you can’t still enjoy the photos. (Hint: if you roll over the links inside the tan box, you can see all of their products.) I think the sheep is my favorite, though I don’t think you’ll see either of my cats sporting it any time soon.

Your David Hasselhoff fix for today

Wednesday, April 16th, 2003 | General | No Comments

Oh, dear god — they’re making a Knight Rider movie. Well, that makes sense, since Trans Ams are so cool these days n’ all.

And, in case you need a little humor at David’s expense, don’t forget about the reviews of his CDs at Amazon. Don’t forget to check out the “Our Customers’ Advice” section, as well. Always good for a laugh.

And again

Temperature last night at 7:30pm: 83 degrees.
Temperature last night at 7:40pm: 46 degrees.

Yep. Gotta love it here.

Typical Wisconsin

One week ago today, we got several inches of snow and it was in the 20s. Today, it’s sunny and 80 degrees.

There’s still a little snowdrift in our parking lot at work, though. Nothing like making a snowball to throw at someone when it’s 80.

My own little corner of the internet

Friday, April 11th, 2003 | General | No Comments

Hey, kids. Just thought I’d give you a heads-up that the URL for this here blog will be changing soon. No more Blogspot for me. Nope. I’ve got my own domain name and I’m moving the site. Found a cool new host (details later) and am getting ready to move. I’ll let you know when everything’s ready to go.

PR-speak translated.

What Quark is really saying.
(Blatantly stolen from Linus.)

Fun with geography!

Wednesday, April 9th, 2003 | General | No Comments

Guess I don’t know the region as well as I thought. I got about half correct initially. That’s gotta count for something, right?

The really frustrating part is that I used to know some of the ones I missed. Hmm. Guess it’s time to brush up on my world geography a little. (In part because they keep renaming countries in Africa. Stop that already. I can’t keep up.)

Oh, great.

Well, that’s just great. The guy who lives above me has a new girlfriend. She’s a screamer and a moaner and the walls in our building are very, very thin.

I’m soooo not happy.

Back in the days of vinyl.

Some cool album cover artwork. Just ‘coz I thought it was neat. (And I wanted to say “neat.”)
(Via The Morning News.)

Ooh. Intriguing.

A coworker of mine sent me these links. I’m beginning to feel a need to buy this.

The commercial. (Flash needed.)
The book.

Well, Easter is almost here.

I was listening to NPR this morning and they were saying how Iraqis had announced they were going to begin using “non-conventional methods” against coalition forces. My first thought was, “What — are they going to stand outside areas where the troops are and taunt them a la Monty Python?” And then it occurred to me. The ultimate non-conventional method: Catapults full of flaming Peeps.

No one would see that coming.

Much bigger than I thought.

I knew Baghdad was pretty spread out, but I had no idea the city was so big. (Why do I keep thinking foreign cities are small? Probably because my only experiences with non-North American cities is in Europe.) This page has some great comparisons of Baghdad to major US cities.
