My current favorite song

Tuesday, May 27th, 2003 | General | No Comments

I’m not a huge fan of either of these artists, and yet, god do I love “Lisa’s Got Hives.” (If you scroll down past the lyrics, you can download the mp3.)

A few more rants

While I’m in a crappy mood, let me just get a few more complaints off my chest:

1) To the makers of “The Last Samurai”: Tom Cruise is not Japanese. Further, he’s not nearly cool enough to be in a film about samurai. ‘Nuff said.

2) To the Wachowski Bros: Dave Matthews? On a Matrix soundtrack? Wrong on so many levels. Now, if you could have worked a scene into the film in which you put Dave Matthews and Rob Zombie into a room together to see which one would survive, I could get behind that, but seriously guys, there’s no other acceptable use of Dave Matthews in one of your films.

3) To my upstairs neighbor, Dumbass, and his friends: If you’re going to have a cookout on the front lawn (and by the way, kudos to you for figuring out the correct fuel for your grill this time), try not putting the grill directly on the lawn (that concrete just a few inches away is a good idea, though). Also, do not — and this is very important, so I’ll repeat the “do not” part — do not torture your neighbors by cranking REO Speedwagon and Night Ranger ballads. (Maybe we should just start with the fact that ballads are not “hangin’ out with the guys, havin’ a cookout” music and work from there.)

Grr. Ok. I’m through now.

Long Weekends

Tuesday, May 27th, 2003 | General | No Comments

Best thing about 3-day weekends: An extra day off.
Worst thing about 3-day weekends: The first day back.

Today has sucked, so I don’t have much to offer but this. Use it well.

It works now

Oh, and if you were having trouble with the bad art link a few entries down, try it now. There was an extra space in the URL, so it wasn’t working properly. (That’s what I get for not testing my links all the time.)

Just kinda wondering

Is it my imagination, or does the town name “Squibknocket” sound like a fine swear word?

Bye bye, Scoobies

I know that everyone and their brother is writing Buffy pieces today, so I’ll keep this short — just a brief mention of how much I’ll miss it all. **sniffle** And just a couple of things I’d like to mention about last night’s episode (warning: spoilers if you haven’t seen it, so run away now):

  1. Trogdor!!!
  2. Kennedy lives??? Gah!! Do I need to make another trip out to D.C.?? (For some odd reason, every time I go out to Washington, D.C., a Kennedy dies. I don’t get to pick which one. It just happens.)
  3. “So what do you guys wanna do tomorrow?”
  4. “I was doing it before it was cool.”
    “What are you? 12?”

Oh, and a small gripe. I think they could have found something better for Gordon at the end. But that’s just me.

Some fine Buffy stuff written by dong_resin (check his 5/20, 7:21pm entry), and Joss’ comment over at the Bronze Beta is priceless.

Also, a fine Buffy-inspired comic (courtesy of Dynagirl).

I think a wake for Buffy is in order. As Christyl points out, we can play poker for kittens as part of the event.

Goin’ under the knife

Gonna be spending my Thursday morning having a little plastic surgery. Oh, sure, it sounds exciting, but it’s really just to remove a lovely grape-sized cyst on my noggin.

It’s not like I’m waiting in anticipation of having stitches on my head, but it really is kind of fun to watch people’s expressions when I tell them that I’m going to a plastic surgeon.

Stop the presses!

We have a winner in the “scariest art inspiration” category!

You want to scream in horror and look away, and yet… you can’t. Extra bonus: Tambourines.

I just spent 20 minutes writing up a wonderfully long blog entry containing at least 5 links and #&%!@R$^$ Blogger just ate it. **Holding back from strangling computer** AAAAAAIIIIGHHH!!!

Ok. I’m back. But I’m not retyping all of that, so here’s a quick synopsis:

1) A Mighty Wind: Good. Go see it. Now.

Why are you still here? Didn’t I just tell you to go see A Mighty Wind?

2) X-Men 2: Good, but if you want to wait for the matinee, you’re fine.
3) Dad: Out of the hospital. Cellulitis from a small cut. Itchy, but less-than-a-month recovery.
4) Jon: Really close to closing on the house!
5) Me: Busy!!!
6) Eclipse, especially following X-2: Very cool.
7) Our office is moving. New building is very nice, but needs work. Champagne and beer today at the preview: even better.
8) A mention on Kafkaesque’s blog. Wow. He makes me laugh out loud. A lot.
9) End of Buffy: Sad, especially that there’s no 2-hour finale.

Should I be worried?

I’ve had deja vu three or four times just this week.

Seems fishy.

Busy, busy

Tuesday, May 13th, 2003 | General | No Comments

The week’s off to a busy start already. Lots of client work to do (and more on the way! Yay!) and my dad just landed himself in the hospital on Monday with some infection/blood clot/??? thing. And that’s just how my Monday morning started out. So, if my blogging is a little light this week, I have good reason. But I’ll try to find little goodies for you.

Bad Bucky. No biting.

Since Wisconsin is the badger state, I just had to post this. Nothin’ like a good badger rampage every now and then.

For all this boredom right now, you’d think I’d have more to post

Thursday, May 8th, 2003 | General | No Comments

And yet, I don’t. Sorry. Didn’t really find anything too exciting today. My big exciting day went something like this: Do small bit of work, wait for more work, surf, grumble about e-mail server being down, surf some more, call doc to make an appointment to remove this stupid cyst on my head, do a little more work, surf a lot more, grumble about being bored, do a little work, write in blog, go home. Fascinating, isn’t it? Let’s hope next week is more productive.

I’m off on Friday, so don’t expect much in the way of updates until Monday.

I’ll be helping out with the WMSE fund drive on my day off — answering phones, taking pledges, etc. If you’re a listener and you haven’t fessed up with the cash yet, get on it. I’ll be there during Jon’s show (9 to noon) and probably through most of Buzz’s show (12-3).

Now I just have to worry about what Jon & his station manager have cooking for this drive’s challenge. Last time, they met the goal for Jon’s show and they both had to shave their heads. (So my social life went something like this last Fall: Date #1 – Date with guy with pompadour. Date #2 – Date with same guy, but bald. And I didn’t run away. Heh)

Anyhow. Have a good weekend y’all. Happy Moms’ Day, if you’re into celebrating that sort of thing. (Not that I don’t like moms. Our family just has a grudge against the holiday itself. But Grandma and Mom started the grudge, so it’s all good.)

Really crappy jobs

Next time you’re hating your job, read through some of these. You’ll probably feel better about your situation.

For those of us with hectic schedules

One-minute vacations. I just took one to Paris.

Moving Day

Tuesday, May 6th, 2003 | General | No Comments

Ok. The blog is in the process of moving. I expect many goofy things to happen in the next few days while Blogger adjusts to the new home. You should be able to find me here now: Please update your bookmarks and pardon the moving boxes strewn about.

(Ok, Matt. Lemme know when I should start pimpin’.)

Awww. They’re so cute.

Tuesday, May 6th, 2003 | General | No Comments

A gallery of micro cars. Some of them look like oversized traffic cones, but others are just astoundingly cute. (Jon, you’ll be happy to know there are mini woodies and Vespas in there too.)

Local Footy

Monday, May 5th, 2003 | General | No Comments

Yay!! Milwaukee has an Aussie Rules football team!! (Yeah, I might be too excited about this.) Think I may have to go check out a couple of games when I have the chance. Could be fun.

I don’t think this kid spent enough time with Yoda

Oh, man. This, AV geeks, is why you don’t videotape yourself doing stupid things using school equipment.

Watch both videos in order.

Moving day

I’m going to attempt to move the blog over to its new home tomorrow. Cross your fingers that everything works out ok. New URL will be
