Great news!

Paul Westerberg’s gone and made himself a nice little documentary. New songs n’ everything. I so cannot wait to buy this on DVD.

Bye, bye, little bugs. We’ll miss you.

*Sniffle* Now future generations won’t know the thrill of driving along, scraping the ice off the inside of your windshield.

Awww. How sad.

The telephone lady died yesterday, too.

I can’t help but think that’s going to creep me out just a little bit the next time I get one of those recordings.

Back when Saturday morning fare didn’t suck

Gather ’round, kiddies of today. These are the fine shows we all got to watch when I was a young ‘un.

If I remember correctly, my line-up went something like: Speed Buggy, Scooby Do, Hong Kong Phooey, ?? (maybe breakfast, maybe something on the independents, ‘coz I know it wasn’t any of the three mentioned), Land of the Lost, Sigmund & the Seamonsters, Superfriends, (small break), Fat Albert.

Yeah. Good times. And Schoolhouse Rock was in there somewhere, too.

Annie have bad day. Annie smash. Rrrrr.

It’s days like today that make me want to go out and buy a heavy bag and a speed bag. And maybe some grenades. I think beer is in order. Lots and lots of it. (Good thing it’s Gallery Night so there’s plenty of free beer to be found over at the neighbors’ shindigs.)

Hope you all have a good weekend. I know mine will vastly improve once this workday’s over. It’s gonna be pretty busy, but I’m managing to find some time to sneak it a stop to see our Aussie Rules Football team (finally!) and to go see one of Jon’s bands at the Downer Bike Race party thingie. And at some point, I’m going to replace the food that I had to throw out when my fridge died last weekend. Fun!

What did I tell you kids about playing with your food?

Makin’ cute critters out of your sushi. (Note the inclusion of the Octodog! Yes!)

I’m with you, brother

I think Kaf nicely sums up my feelings toward Arby’s stupid oven mitt. God, how I hate that thing. (Doner Advertising, what were you thinking? Aren’t there enough irritating mascots in fast food these days??)

Also, following up Barry White with Tom Arnold? Just bad.

Hipster Bingo

Tuesday, July 22nd, 2003 | General | No Comments

This Hipster Bingo kinda looks a little easy. In fact, I think I could win just with a walk around the studio here. (Mind you, people here have been dressing like that for years. Eventually whatever you’re doing comes into style if you do it long enough.)

Never mind the second one. Why the first?

Christyl & I were out imbibing in some lovely beverages at a local restaurant’s wine bar Friday evening when we overheard this from a little farther down the bar:

Guy: “I’ll never forget that night he drank those two bottles of ketchup.”
Girl: “Oh, I know. And you guys were all saying, ‘Don’t give him that second bottle!’”

Ahhh. That’s more like it.

I can’t remember the last time I woke up on my birthday and heard the weather guy say it was 62 degrees outside. (That’s about 16.5 for you metric folks.)

I am one happy, happy camper.

It’s been a long week already

Monday, July 21st, 2003 | General | No Comments

I think I’ve found a way to make the trauma of another birthday not so bad — have really crap things happen to you for a few days beforehand so you completely forget about aging!

The negative side of things since Saturday afternoon: One dead refrigerator (bye bye, freezer full of brand new food), a lovely kink in my neck thanks to sleeping in the wrong position, heat rash, a little cut on my ear from where my umbrella attacked me on the way into work this morning (thank you, wind), jolly hours of fun with the client’s tech support team, upset stomach, and starting Monday with an utter lack of sleep Sunday night.

On the plus side, Jon took me (and Christyl and Mom, her boyfriend and his daughter) out for dinner on Saturday and got me lots of cool stuff. (Cowboy Bebop stuff, Todd Oldham stuff, a Happy Mondays CD and a Douglas Coupland book. Very happy camper!) Got another Coupland book from Christyl, which I believe completes the collection. (Yay!) There was also some grilling this weekend and I got a sweet deal on a new memory card for my digital camera. So, I guess, all was not lost.

But the fridge thing still sucks. ‘Specially when your landlord’s outta town at the time. (Thank god for voicemail!) New fridge won’t arrive until Wednesday morning, but at least there’s one on the way.

Taking the long view

Friday, July 18th, 2003 | General | No Comments

Here’s a great photo site for you. It’s called “Taking the Long View: Panoramic Photographs, 1851-1991.” There’s a handy subject listing and their search feature works pretty well.

Here’s a great photo of downtown Milwaukee and the East Side from the lake, circa 1912. Skyline looks a little more like this these days. (Though a number of the buildings in the first photo still exist.)

Definitely worth $8

Jon & I went to go see Pirates of the Caribbean this weekend. If you’re wondering whether or not to shell out for this flick, let me sum it up in three words that should help you decide: Cursed pirate monkey.

Oh yes.

Quick — someone get my Geritol

I’ve only got a week left to be 33.

Dammit. I feel old.

So many ‘beating the meat’ jokes, so little time.

The perils of County Stadium’s (whoops — Miller Park’s) sausage races.

Look, we know our team sucks, but please don’t take it out on the sausages.

I think Simon should have to run one of the races as penance.

Hey, check it out

There are other Czelts out there. Hello, bretheren (and sister)!

How about that? Our nationality now has its own band!

Mmmm. Irn-Bru.

If the person who came looking for places to buy Irn-Bru in Wisconsin is still around, e-mail me. I can get you a list of places I’ve found it.

I’m a walking public service announcement.

As Keanu would say, “Whoa.”

Bullet-time ping pong. Utterly cool. (Note: Takes a few seconds to load.)

Oh yeah.

Forgot to mention that I added Cowboy Sally (twinkle twinkle blah blah blah etc.) to the blogs on the right side of the page. Dunno why it took me so long to add her. I’m forgetful that way.

Go read her. You can thank me later.

It’s finally live

The web site for our company’s new digs I mentioned in an earlier post is live. Props to my cube-neighbor Dan for his design and work. It’s pretty cool.
