I can’t have nice things

The brand-spankin’-new iPod had its first fall last night. It was rough-housing with its feline sisters and took a little fall from the coffee table.

Day 1: Scratch on the faceplate.

Still works ok, though, so there’s still harmony at home.

Actually, iPod Tuesday.

Holy crap, does Apple fill orders quickly. The iPod just arrived. I squealed and hugged the box when it showed up at my desk.

And they had a little promo going when I ordered. Engraving was free. Well, hell, if it’s free, I can come up with something to engrave on the beastie.

And so, the back of my iPod now says:
CzelticPod
All hail Jonathan Ive

Interesting, but not very restful

More fun with wacky hotel rooms. Some of them make me quite dizzy.

iPod Friday

Friday, March 26th, 2004 | Life in Czeltistan | 6 Comments

Finally got around to ordering up the iPod.

Now to finally get OS X so I can use it. (It’s coming very, very shortly. Can’t hardly wait.)

No concrete plans for the weekend. Kind of novel, considering the amount of planning that went into last weekend. Might grab a pint on Paddy’s lovely huge patio if the weather holds out. Probably throw in an episode or two of Firefly in honor of Nathan Fillion’s b-day tomorrow. Who knows? It’s all so very up-in-the-air.

More ways to waste time on the internet

I think I have a new blog to check. This stuff is brilliant.

Also, if I get some time, I may play with the CSS on this site, so if you see anything going all wonky over the next week or so, let me know.

There she goes again with the maps

This is very cool — an online collection of U.S. and Canadian panoramic maps from 1847 to 1929 that allows you to zoom in for detail. (Dammit. There goes more time I could be spending doing something productive.)

There aren’t a ton of Milwaukee maps, but they’re still pretty nice.

(Helpful tip for getting to the cool part: Click on the map you want to see, then click on the map’s picture on the next page. On the page you get after that, the little zoom tool is underneath the bigger map. Click the button for the desired level of zoom, then click where you want to zoom in on the map. The smaller map to the right is your navigator. Works kinda like Photoshop that way.)

I could have had fun with this

It’s not so much the blog entry itself as the comments that had me chuckling.

Finally. Some time to post.

A busy Czelt is a happy Czelt. Or something like that. Whatever it is, I’m in a far better mood than I was Friday of last week. Had myself a lovely long weekend and even though the next couple of weeks look to be busy, they also look to be pretty good. Can’t argue with that.

Went out to Madison on Saturday with Christyl for the 2nd meetup with the MeFi folks there. It was a far smaller gathering than last time (hell, even our organizer didn’t make it!), but we had a good time and this time the gathering was head-punch free (though there was some poking). MeTa thread and photos can be found here.

On the way out to Madison, we made two quick stops — one in Lake Mills to find the letterbox with the fewest clues I’ve ever come across and one at the Vilas Zoo to squish up some pennies before the current designs in the machines got retired. (Hooray! Three geek hobby activities in one day!)

Did a little more letterboxing on Sunday with Mom, then kicked back and spent the evening reading the paper and watching movies. Sure does take the edge off Sunday when you know you don’t have to work Monday.

Slept in Monday then finished the current book I was reading. Since it was an absolutely beautiful day (40s, sunny), I went out to do some more letterboxing. I was quite proud of myself — I found five new boxes, 1/4 of one of the local mystery boxes and relocated two hitchhikers. Even got inspired to come up with ideas for placing a few boxes of my own. Gotta give credit to letterboxing — in addition to being a fun little treasure hunt, it’s a really sneaky way to get me to do some more exercise.

Another little joy on Monday — my first Gilleburger of the year. I always get a jones for one in January or February, when Gilles is closed, so I was thrilled to find myself in the neighborhood and craving one when the stand was open. And, as the article promises, one of only three other people in the place was Bud Selig.

Tonight’s little joy is an Admirals game. After last year’s dismal performance, I was more than happy to hand over the check for my playoff tickets at the office today. Even better than making it to the playoffs — being one of the first two teams to clinch a spot (Grand Rapids being the first) and being in first place in the division. Huzzah! First place! It’s been a long damn time since the team has been able to hang a banner up in the rafters of the Bradley Center.

So that’s about it here in Czeltistan. More hockey coming up in the next couple of weeks, plus the trip to NYC. Can’t hardly wait.

Six to choose from!

Patron Saints of Graphic Design.

I think I need a little statue of St. Typo for my desk to watch over my Google searches. It’ll go nicely with the St. Clare of Assisi one that’s there now. (She’s the patron saint of television, you know.)

See ya, spam

Thanks to Mr. BaliHai’s fabulous suggestion, I’ve installed MT Blacklist. Let’s see if it fixes my little spam problem. (Gosh, wherever will I get my offers for penis pills now?) Thanks, Mr. B.

So this is what brain death feels like

It’s been another one of those slightly overwhelming days here in Czeltistan. I’m exhausted and more than just a bit cranky and I just haven’t had time to find any good links for you today. Sorry. It’s not you. It’s me. No, really.

Saturday, we’ve got the Madison MeFi meetup to go to, which should be fun. Hopefully no one will get punched in the head this time.

Other than that, I’m settling in for a nice long weekend of nothing. I took Monday off and I plan to spend it either cleaning my house or out letterboxing, so there probably won’t be updates here until Tuesday.

You all go enjoy your weekends. I’ll talk to you next week.

I want one!

Carbs are essential for effective dieting and good mood.

You Atkins folks aren’t cranky ‘coz you can’t have bread, you’re cranky because you’re fucking with your body.

Let’s recap:
Balanced diet and exercise: Good.
Atkins or any other fad diet plan: Stupid.

I upgraded MT this morning because of the volume of comment spam I’ve been getting. If you find anything not working correctly, please let me know. Gracias.

Update: Grumble. Installed 2.661. Still getting comment spam. Anyone have any great ideas? (Ideas other than deleting it and going back and closing comments on old entries, that is. I’m all over that, but it’s taking forever to close 2 years’ worth.)

Please help me

Woke up this morning with a Barry Manilow song in my head. Can’t shake it.

Poor Stewart. He writes a post about how he helped someone using IM find an answer and suddenly he’s beseiged with requests for answers to people’s questions. Luckily for the rest of us, he’s archiving the conversations for our amusement.
