3-Day Weekend!

Friday, May 28th, 2004 | Life in Czeltistan | 3 Comments

Sorry for the lack of posting this week. It was all I could do to get the template up.

You all have yourself a fabulous Memorial Day weekend (even if you’re not in the US and don’t get Monday off. Nyahh nyahh.) (Oh, wait — skip that last part).

Me? I’ll be kickin’ back for the next three days. Maybe do a little letterboxing. Likely do some cleaning. Probably watch a little NHL hockey and wait for word on an AHL opponent. Might even grill something (as is required by US law for this weekend, I think). Starting it all out by going to see STaLL tonight.

Most excellent.

On to the finals!

Admirals win! Admirals win!! Woo hoo!!

Now we just sit back and wait for Wilkes-Barre/Scranton and Hartford to duke it out. Finals start Tuesday or Wednesday of next week, depending on who wins that one.

Interesting twist for me if W-B/S wins: My favorite former Admiral (and the guy whose name graces my jersey) is playing for them this season. Still, it’ll be good to see him on the ice again. I miss the chippy little guy. I just wish he was playing for us.

Stuff n’ things

There will be a template update around here one of these days (as soon as I can get to it). Same goes for more linkety goodness. Pesky billable work’s been getting in the way of my blogging. The Man calls and I have to answer. And for that, you all suffer. It’s just not right, but that’s how the world works.

Johnny Bacardi’s been added back into the links at the right. (Sorry, JB!) If I’ve left anyone else out, please don’t hesitate to let me know.

Switching, yet again

Making the switch over to Wordpress.

Any technical difficulties you may encounter should be corrected in the next day or so.

Time to build that ark, I guess

It can stop raining any time now.

Have you hugged your carbs today?

Thursday, May 20th, 2004 | Fun With Teh Intarweb | 5 Comments

Welcome to National Carb Awareness Day.

Already started celebrating with a bagel and I wasn’t even aware of the day. I think lunch will include something with loads of bread or pasta and there will be beers at the game tonight. Viva los carbs!

Oh, sure — I’ll need to log some time at the gym, but just think how happy my brain’s going to be. :-)

(Sorry to any of you who saw this earlier. It was a little game I like to call “I’ll close my tags when I feel like it.”)

Stories from a round-eye in China

Wednesday, May 19th, 2004 | Bloggity goodness | No Comments

Mr. Bali Hai has some good stories and photos from his trip to China. They start with the May 15 entry and proceed on. Check them out.

Should have gotten him the Firefly disks so he could practice up on his Chinese for the trip.

That’s some “office casual” policy

From my rowmate at last night’s hockey game:

“If I have more than two beers tonight, remind me I have to wear pants to work tomorrow.”

Cruel and wrong, but funny

Why you should never put your picture on the internet.

Tales of the unrelated

Tuesday, May 18th, 2004 | Life in Czeltistan | 1 Comment

Some little unrelated tidbits for you today, internet friends. Nothing overly special, just some little things I thought were entertaining.

1. Conference finals against Rochester start tonight. As much as I’d love to follow the Admirals to Buffalo/Rochester for games 3-5, it ain’t gonna happen. I’m consoling myself with the knowledge that I can put that money toward the Czech Republic trip later on this year.

2. Overheard at Blockbuster on Friday night: “Oh my god! They remade The Italian Job? When?? Didn’t that just come out? And who’s this old guy they got to play Mark Wahlberg?”

The employee stocking the shelf next to me and I just looked at each other and burst out laughing. Gotta love the college students. So much left to learn.

3. SteelBuddha has a nice little entry today in which we mock Fred Durst’s blog. Join us, won’t you. It needs doing.

4. After one week of antibiotics (one down, one to go), my kitty seems to be getting better. Now it’s just a matter of keeping my fingers crossed and hoping that she stays better when the meds end. (Which translates to: It was just an infection and not a kidney stone and further fun with the vet would not be required.) Many many props to my vet. Vets who make house calls rock. Hard.

Kinda light. Must be Friday.

The Non-Experts over at The Morning News answer random questions. Chuckles ensue.

That’s all I’ve got, folks. My brain is semi-busy with hockey these days, so I’m spending a lot of time on those types of sites and, while I find the stats n’ such interesting, I’m sure you all won’t. (Ok, maybe you, Mr. Bacardi, but so few of the others.)

I will, however, pass along my fondest wishes for an Admirals win tonight so that they may move on to the next round of the playoffs. I’ve never been to Rochester or Buffalo and my hockey buddy and I are seriously considering heading out there to see the next round away games. (*cough* If the Admirals would hurry up and win this round, of course *cough*)

The Amerks, in addition to having kick-ass throwback uniforms, have been a lot of fun to watch when they’ve been in town before and the fans of theirs I’ve met have all been very nice people. I’m not thrilled about the first two of their home games of the series needing to be played in Buffalo because the rocket scientists at their arena didn’t consider the team might still be playing and went and booked the circus instead (second half of the article). But then again, it’s unlikely I’ll get to a Sabres game any time soon, so it’d be fun to see their arena.

All a moot point if the Ads don’t get their butts in gear, though. So I will be close to my radio tonight, hoping there isn’t a hockey game tomorrow night and that a new round of playoffs starts for the team next week.

You all have a lovely weekend.

Now that’s just taunting

This is my view from my office chair every day. See those two G5s on the floor in the little alcove in front of my desk? They’re awaiting new owners. I am not one of the new owners. And yet, they sit there, every day, mocking me and my G4. *sniffle*

(And before you ask, the little sign on the top left of my monitor says “If you touch my monitor I will poke you in the eye.” It’s a little warning to both of my bosses, who like to touch the monitor and leave little fingerprints behind. Oh, and yes, I’m reading Anil Dash. Hadn’t even noticed it was still up until after I took the photo. Unfortunately, the browser window is blocking the nice picture of Serenity I have as my desktop photo.)

A quick invasion or twelve, and voila – modern English

I thought this very simple little diagram showing the history of the English language was kind of interesting.

How to argue a speeding ticket correctly

If the officer can screw up this much on a ticket, I don’t think I want him investigating any crimes.

Does no one do research any more?

At lunch today, I was venting to SteelBuddha about how I was getting annoyed with the misuse of the word “blog” on Law & Order: Criminal Intent last night. (What they were describing on the show was more in the order of a forum or chat room than a blog, but they kept calling it a blog. Irritating. Look, I know it’s picky, but if you’re going to try to be all “hip & trendy” and use internet terms, at least use them correctly, m’kay?)

But it looks like Dick Wolf & Co. aren’t the only folks who can’t figure blogs out, as the Buddha passed along this gem to me this afternoon. Oh, Fox “News”. You are so cutting edge.

Best quote of the whole thing: “It’s like getting a squirrel confused with a mailbox because they’re both on the sidewalk.”

Even my spam comes from important people

Got e-mail this morning from Jesus. I haven’t read it yet, but the subject line says “weatherproof” which, with the weather we’ve been having around here the last few days, may not be a bad thing.

Also got e-mail from King Galway. Brendan, is there something you want to tell us all? A side career, perhaps?

More silliness of the “Badger, badger, badger…” variety: Bananaphone.

Has sound, so if’n you’re goofin’ off at work, you’ll want headphones.

You can all thank me for this later when this song’s eating your brain at 3am.

(Here’s a change-up: Via Steelbuddha, instead of the other way around.)

Yes, yes. It’s another photoblog, but The Visual Record is a really nice photoblog. Lovely, lovely photos, good descriptions.

The photos of Autumn at Yellowstone and Tetons are especially nice.
