He’s a star!

Wednesday, October 27th, 2004 | Again with the hockey | No Comments

Well, that’s cool. One of the Admirals, Darren Haydar, is Bauer’s new poster boy. I believe that’s also MSOE’s new Kern Center featured in the video. Grand opening on that baby is this weekend. I’m thrilled. It means there may be a place with open skate a mere 2 miles from my apartment. Sweet.

(I don’t think it matters which country you choose on the Bauer site. The Darren section appears in all I tested and the video’s always in English. Sorry, dial-up folks, this one’s a slow load.)

Ah, the snake button.

Wednesday, October 27th, 2004 | Life in Czeltistan | 3 Comments

Count me among the many who can’t resist the lure of the snake button. I have to push it every time I’m in the Museum, even if it’s just a quick stop in to squish some pennies. (Well, actually, *especially* if I have to stop in to squish some pennies. The diorama is right in between the buffalo and Egypt penny machines.)

That snake button one of my favorite parts our museum. I also love the candy store in the Streets of Old Milwaukee (there’s a brothel that’s kind of hidden in that exhibit, as well, though I don’t think the Museum goes out of its way to point it out) and the European Village, which contains some doors carved by a former neighbor of ours who was originally from Yugoslavia. (Same neighbor also built this lighthouse which was loads of fun to play in as a kid. Fun trivia: The tower was originally square.)

Ooh. A co-inkydink.

How’s this for good timing? Steelbuddha & I were having a bit of a discussion (prompted by this MetaFilter thread) about how George Lucas deserves a good crotch booting for his tweaks to the original Star Wars trilogy. I said that what we needed to do was get ahold of the THX videos and figure out some way to get them copied onto DVD.

Within 1/2 hour of our discussion, Steelbuddha appears at my desk holding the sealed THX box set.

One of our coworkers is moving and gifted them to SB.

(Wait — did I just use up a valuable wish on something as trivial as making sure Greedo shoots first?? Hmm. Actually, I think I’m ok with that.)

Road Blocks

Level 14 is evil.

(Followup: Oh, man. All of that and then the final message is misspelled?? Tsk.)

Ok. Now my sides hurt.

In an odd blogging role-reversal, I got a link from Steelbuddha. (Thanks, SB!)

It’s Photoshop Phriday over at Something Awful and this week, it’s movie posters. I haven’t laughed this hard in a while. Slow load for those of you on dial up, but definitely very funny.

The Green Monster gets more TV time

Thursday, October 21st, 2004 | General | No Comments

I’m not much of a baseball fan, but I was happy to hear the BoSox beat the Yankees to make it to the Series. Helluva comeback, guys.

If you’re up against the Cards, give ‘em a good thrashing. I’m still mad at them for 1982.

Oh, horrors!

They now make filled Marshmallow Peeps. Filled.

*shudder*

On second thought, I can’t decide if I’m disgusted or intrigued by this. It could add a whole new dimension to Peep jousting.

(Entertaining as hell: Look at the Recipes & Crafts section of the site. Crafts! Oh, now I get it! They’re not for eating after all! Well that explains a lot.)

I have a secret to tell from my electrical well

Thursday, October 21st, 2004 | Life in Czeltistan | 3 Comments

While I was at a store the other day, I ran across a nightlight with a little blue bird on it. I saw it for just a second or two. Didn’t even slow down to get a closer look at it.

Can my brain let this go, though? Oh, no. For the last two days, I’ve had They Might Be Giants’ “Birdhouse in Your Soul” stuck in my head. (Grr. Blue canary.) And sometime overnight last night, the Schoolhouse Rock “Electricity” song joined in the festivities. I think they’re duking it out to see which song can be the Champion Best Electricity Song of All Time.

Oh, sure, it’s possible to have far worse (and far less educational) songs stuck in your head, but now I’ve got the phrase “Longines Symphonette” stuck in there too. That can only lead to a whole host of easy listening music hell.

I tried dislodging the tunes this morning with a little TMBG warfare. Figured I could get Birdhouse out with “Istanbul (not Constantinople),” but all that succeeded in doing was reminding me how those asshats in Cowboy Mouth pretty much ripped off the tune to that song. (I really don’t like Cowboy Mouth. Can you tell?) So anyhow… back to finding a way to get the electricity battle out of my head. (Steelbuddha: Don’t even suggest that Gilligan’s Island thing. That just never works and I’ll only wind up getting TV themes playing in there.)

Towerbrave’s kick-ass artworks. Nice stuff, chica. It’s all very, very cool.

(I really have to get back to spending more time on 9622. I’m missing out on all the recent monkey goodness over there.)

When TVs cry for help

Tch. Only four channels? No wonder the thing sent out a distress signal.

Ok. I installed Blacklist this morning, so comment moderation is once again off and life in Czeltistan is back to normal.

The Zither From Hell

Tuesday, October 12th, 2004 | Life in Czeltistan | 4 Comments

The Third Man was on last night. Of course, I had to watch it. I *heart* that movie something fierce.

Watching it does have one small drawback though. The theme music, which I believe is the only main movie theme played on a zither, is played throughout the movie. (If it doesn’t have a proper title, it should be called “The Harry Lime” ‘coz it plays whenever Orson Wells is around. Plus, you know… harry lime just sounds funny.) Regardless of how little or how much of the movie I see, I am guaranteed to have that song playing in my head for a week or so afterward. Ah, well. Still worth it every time to see such a great film.

Grrr

Comments will need to be approved before they’re posted, at least temporarily. I’m getting massively comment-spammed and it’s gonna be a busy week, so I don’t know when I’ll be able to get to fixing that. As soon as I install whatever blacklist option WordPress has, I’ll turn the moderation off again.

Stupid spammers. No, I don’t want to learn more about online poker.

Pssst.

Good call on tonight’s veep debate, Defective Yeti.

I think maybe I’ll watch both, back-to-back. Prediction: there will be slightly less kicking in Buffy.

For the 12-year-old boy in all of us

Our hero, Dong Resin, has a new gig — editor of Screenhead. Per the site’s intro, “Screenhead is an online review of, um, funny shit. Gross Photoshop humor, idiotic Flash animations, laughable Japanese commercials—updated twelve times a day.”

Yes, it’s kind of like Blort, but it’s like Blort with Dong at the helm, which is just so much better.
