Sigh.

Not a win for the Czelt in the MKE blog of the week contest. C’est la vie.

But that shouldn’t stop you from going to vote for the ever-fabulous, Czelt-approved BB-Blog, which is in this week’s contest. (Now we just need to get Steelbuddha next week and we’re all set. *Runs off to nominate SB’s blog for inclusion.*)

On the plus side of things today, my cat ate some food by herself this morning, which made her mom do a little happy dance. No more force feedings, which she and I will both appreciate. (Not that it’s not fun being covered in smelly cat food.) There’s still the issue of having to give her a pill twice a day for the rest of her life, but eventually we’ll work that one out. She hasn’t figured out she can bite me yet (or she’s smart enough to know that would be a really bad idea).

I’m sure this is OFN to someone, but I didn’t know about it. Here’s how you decode the little color bars on New Order’s Power Corruption & Lies album and the Blue Monday and Confusion singles. (Also works on the little bit in the upper right on their website.)

“We Are the Champions,” eh?

The Morning News helps you decide Orientalism: Yes or No?

That’s my city!

The Washington Post has an article singing Milwaukee’s praises. Yay, us! It really is a fabulous city.

The Villa Terrace gardens they mention in the article look like this. (I really should get a better photo of that. I just realized I left out the entire section of gardens that’s closest to the lake. Hmm. Spring project.) And the Concertina Bar — which really is as awesome as she makes it sound — can be found here.

(Note: I didn’t need to register to see this, so either the Post has disabled their registration screen or I got through on a fluke. Your mileage may vary.)

Oh, joy!

The diagnosis is in. My cat has hyperthyroidism. Probably need to get her sister tested, too.

Can’t wait for the fun of going to pick up the meds from my pharmacy this afternoon and then explaining to them that, no, this particular prescription doesn’t go on my insurance.

Meantime, she’s not out of the woods with the current illness, so I’m still vigorously attempting to treat that. Did my first (quite successful, I might add) attempt at giving her fluids this morning. Poor kitty. It’s a fairly large-bore needle. It can’t be fun, but she was pretty good for me. Thankfully, she doesn’t mind me giving her the painkillers so much. It’s oral and I guess cats like the taste and smell of it. (Or maybe she just remembers it from last time she was ill. Maybe she gets a little kitty high from it. Doubt it, since I think it’s just cat Advil, but you never know.)

The thing she hates most, though, is the force feedings, but who wouldn’t? Guess I shouldn’t have let her watch Seven all those times, eh? Who knew that’d come back to bite me in the ass? Still, she needs to eat, so I’m gonna be the bad mom over the lunch hour and go home, wrap her up in a towel and make her eat. Best to do it then, when no neighbors are home. Less likelihood of anyone hearing the cat’s howling and calling the ASPCA on me. Man, does she make a racket.

It must be kind of comic to watch the feeding, as it involves me trying to force her to eat really, really stinky food, all the while fending off her sister who thinks it must be Christmas come early for us to have something that smells so tasty. If only I could share one cat’s enthusiasm with the other…

So that’s the fun I’m having these days. Do try not to be too jealous.

Sleepy Czelt.

Sorry for the lack of posts on here. I’ve been dealing with a sick kitty for the last two days. Vet came this morning and took some blood, ran some tests, trimmed her claws, administered some drugs and rehydrated the wee beastie. (Added bits of joy: I get to administer subcutaneous fluids for the next few days. Won’t that be fun!) Lab results should be back in the morning, so I’ll know why miss Cliffy is illin’. At least we ruled out diabetes this morning, so that’s a relief. Now I’m just keeping my fingers crossed that it’s nothing serious.

Hopefully tonight after the rehydrating and some force feeding, she’ll sleep like a log so her mom can, too. I’m wiped out from being up with her the last two nights. Neither of us got much sleep, which is not good for cats or sleep addicts like me.

So that’s all I’ve got.

Oh, no — wait. I do have somthing: The Mustache March got picked up by MetaFilter today, so that’s awesome. Maybe it’ll bring in some more donations for charity. Yay!

Very, very cool

Trompe l’oeil as done by desktop wallpaper. Flikr’s transparent screens images.

This one must have been damn near impossible. At least it would be with my cats. They see a camera, they think it’s a cue to get up and walk around.

Warning: It’ll make you yawn too.

One of the little joys of 9622.net is the thread drift. As one of the taglines says, it’s an art form at that site.

A local thread about what was in everyone’s bags lead to this fantastic conversation.

Took me 2 or 3 posts to follow what was going on, but it’s become one of my favorite threads ever there.

Vote for me. Or else.

Ok. Not really “or else.”

But apparently this li’l ol’ blog is one of 10 featured at mkeonline.com’s weekly blog contest. Who knew? (Hey — do I get bonus points because I used to work for their parent company?)

Hmm. Guess that weekend of holiday blog slacking is going to have to wait.

Actually, this is kind of cool. I didn’t even know most of the other blogs on the list existed. I love finding new stuff.

Update: Holy crap. It just occurred to me that mine is the first-ever blog listed for this feature. I feel kind of special. Or at least I feel a little pressure. :-)

Switched over to WP1.5 this morning. The use of Kubrick as the default template sealed the deal. Let me know if you run into any errors or goofiness.

And Brendan, I’m sorry there’s no mermaid.

And speaking of art…

Sunday night I went to a fun little art show — called Peep Show — at a cool local bar. Fun was had, Peeptinis were consumed (fun Peeptini fact: Peeps do not melt in a glass full of booze. This only serves to reinforce my contention that Peeps are not food.), art was enjoyed and purchased. I only wish I’d thought to bring my camera. So many creative uses for Peeps.

I walked away with two lovely Peep art pieces: a Peep beastie (Oh, dear. Can’t remember who made this one) and a fantastic painting by local artist Bridget Griffith Evans.

Coworker Joel & I are already planning our entries into the event for next year. We’ve got some great ideas.

‘Coz I know so much about the art

This is kind of fun — you can help jury an online art exhibit. Make sure you prowl around the rest of the site, too. Plenty of past exhibitions there.

I’m tired of you kids moping around the house all day. Why don’t you take your projector outside and make your own fun?

Or: Things you can do with a projector, some transparencies and a nuclear plant.

Happy b-day, Miz Christyl!

Another example of why Matthew Baldwin is my hero

The 30 least-hot follow-ups to 30 hot things to say to a naked woman.

Matthew Baldwin > the writers at Men’s Health. Big time. I think they screwed up on the title to the original article. Perhaps it was supposed to be “30 things to make a naked woman wish she wasn’t naked with you.”

Also, the correct response a woman can make to “I’ll make coffee” is “And make something to eat while you’re at it. I’d love some toast. Maybe some eggs, too.”

Now I know my ABCs…

The Retail Alphabet Game.

I guess, considering my line of work, I shouldn’t be surprised at how well I do on these tests, but it does say a lot about effective brand recognition.

Hmm. Maybe we should give these tests to our clients the next time one of them balks at how expensive it is to create a logo.

It’s turning out to be less creepy than I thought.

The halfway photos are up over at Mustache March. You too can now see the mustache-filled weirdness that is my daily work life.

Kinda wish I had my camera on me today, as Ivan (#13 in the latest gallery) has decided to make his very metal ’stache a very metal St. Pat’s ’stache (and he’s gone and dyed his hair green to match). I can’t decide if it’s impressive or horrifying. If it’s still green in two weeks for the chili cook-off, it’ll easily fall toward the horrifying side.

(FYI, if anyone has any interest in pledging, feel free to contact me. I’ll hook you up with a participant who will gladly help you distribute your cash.)

As promised, photos!

Thanks to my kick-ass doc, I’m good as new.

Well, ok. Almost good as new. Stupid stiffness. *grumble, grumble*

With all the excitement over the cast removal, I almost forgot to give a birthday shoutout to Steelbuddha.

I believe that makes today St. Steelbuddha’s Day. Drinks all around!
