In 24 hours…

Friday, May 27th, 2005 | Life in Czeltistan | No Comments

… I’ll be having a lovely meal with some friends in Jersey, gettin’ ready to go visit friends in NYC.

Man, this day is taking forever.

What a phenomenally dull idea!

It’s official — they’re out of reality show ideas if this has been given the green light: a show to pick a new lead singer for INXS.

This could be the beginning of a fabulous new trend — Rock Star Replacements. Of course, you’ll need to pick a band that’s been defunct for at least five years. Just think of the possibilities!

No, wait. Don’t. It’s too depressing.

Longmire revisited

Awhile back, a site with romance novel cover remixes was making the rounds. Turns out lots of folks sent in their own ideas, so there’s a brand new batch of them posted. Hooray!

Wow.

This story of identical quads born in Texas kind of reminds me of my friend Karen. She’s also a twin and was set to have natural quadruplets, except hers would have been two sets of identical twins. One died in utero, so she wound up having triplets. For the longest time, each one had a different color painted on their pinky fingernail so you could tell them apart.

Ooh. Shiny.

Very wonderful guerilla poster art for Serenity. I am so diggin’ the first Jayne poster, Kayleigh’s poster and the Wanted poster for Mal. Looks like I’ve got me some new art for my cube.

(Xie-xie to Johnny Bacardi for the tip.)

Gorram right we are

Har!

God, I can’t wait for September.

Ripping George a new one

Wednesday, May 18th, 2005 | You Call This News? | 4 Comments

This New Yorker review of Revenge of the Sith is hilarious.

Also, while we’re here, what’s with the screwy syntax? Deepest mind in the galaxy, apparently, and you still express yourself like a day-tripper with a dog-eared phrase book. “I hope right you are.” Break me a fucking give.

Me, I’m kinda unconcerned about the movie. I still haven’t seen the second one. Pretty much stopped caring after episode 1. I’m just going to pretend they only made the first three and that the third of those didn’t actually contain any ewoks. Yup. Much happier in my little world.

Oh, and George, Han shot first.

iPod geekery

I can’t actually do some of these with my non-photo iPod, but the rest of Kottke’s list of 50 Fun Things to Do with Your iPod look interesting.

Just downloaded #2 for next weekend. Sweet.

Is it still a secret if you share it with the world?

People write a secret on a handmade postcard and mail it anonymously. The secrets get posted for all the world to see: Postsecret.

Some of these cards are absolutely beautiful. I think I am in love with this idea.

SB moonlights

MHG’s (aka: Mrs. Steelbuddha) new store is open. Hooray! SB coded his butt off to make it work, so go check it out.

Gimme a hint. Is it under the high school?

Clearly this ad campaign was not run by any Joss Whedon fans. I guarantee you none of us thought “Bell South” first.

I’ll go get the stakes.

(Thanks to BB for the much-needed Friday laugh.)

Now with toast!

New template. I’ll tweak up the colors on it a bit when my eyes aren’t tired, but for now… ta da!

Ok. That’s all I got.

Oh, I got your hand gestures right here

All this time, I thought the fact that I tend to talk with my hands had something to do with coming from a long line of teachers and salespeople, but it turns out there’s a scientific reason for it.

I swear, if you were to tie our hands behind our backs, no one in my family would be able to hold a conversation.

(a nod to adampsyche for the linkage.)

I still hate the ribbons…

Thursday, May 12th, 2005 | Fun With Teh Intarweb | 4 Comments

…but these amuse me. Support our ribbons.

I almost want the “I Support More Troops Ribbon,” though the “My Ribbon is Better” one is so very nicely 80s punk. Decisions, decisions.

These would have been so fitting yesterday when I pulled up next to the SUV with eight — count ‘em, eight — ribbons on its side and back. Did I mention — eight?

(Stolen from the ever-fabulous BB.)

First post: Kitties

Thursday, May 12th, 2005 | Bloggity goodness | No Comments

You have to love a company blog that starts their posting with pictures of their kitties. And between SB and me, all of those noises have been made. We’ve even got others we could add, including a lot of pseudo-bad words I learned from Joss Whedon. (Thanks, Joss!)

Say cheese

Lots of new pix on Flickr. They’re mostly older stuff I’ve scanned in (which means most of them are in the “Oldies but… oldies” set, if you wanna browse that way). They’re mostly for Christyl’s and my amusement, but feel free to be amused along with us. (STaLL boys, if you’re still stoppin’ by, you make appearances in some.)

Might also be a new template sprucing up the digs around here in the near future, too. Just gotta make a couple of tweaks, which I can do now that the internet connection’s back up at home. Woo hoo.

Back to the drawing board

MU ditches stupid nickname.

I thought I heard a cheer go up from down the road. Must be all the little MUs out celebrating.

Stupid human tricks

Things to do when you feel like playing with your money.

You probably shouldn’t hand it to shopkeepers this way, though. I don’t think they’ll be too keen on unfolding a bunch of these to make them fit in the till.

Couldn’t have said it better

Steve Czaban sums up the way so many of us feel about Marquette’s stupid new nickname.

Which reminds me — Mom was on some kind of former-student advisory board to discuss the team nicknames. I can’t believe something this lame ever came up in there and she didn’t mention it, so I’m going to guess they didn’t even tell the people they brought in to advise them that they were planning something this stupid. Good job, Marquette! That’s just the way I remember things happening there.

Recovered, but busy

Tuesday, May 10th, 2005 | Life in Czeltistan | No Comments

Lest you all think I really outdid myself this time, I just wanted to let you know that the hangover’s long gone but I haven’t had much time to update. Work’s been busy and my internets connection at home was down Monday night. (It was pathetic how much withdrawal I had.)

On the plus side, I’m too busy to get into any trouble. I’m sure my liver thanks me for that. (It’s resting up for NY. I have a funny feeling it’ll get a workout there…)

Soon as I get a chance, there will be updates.
