Brisco County Jr. on DVD! And just in time for my birthday.

More bloggity coworkers

I’m a bit pokey in posting this, but another of my coworkers — Flash guru Timmy — has a new blog: Oneplusinfinity. Check it out.

We’re back…kind of.

R & I are back from the “how much of NYC can we see in 4 days” tour. (Answer: Loads and loads. Even if it’s pouring rain. Apologies to all those in the NY area who we should have visited but didn’t. It was R’s first time in the city, so we went for massive amounts of tourism instead of visiting.) Many, many photos were taken and will be posted soon. It’ll probably still be a bit quiet around here for another day or so, as I’ve got a site launch on Friday that will be eating up most of my time between now and then, but I’ll be back once that’s done. (Ok. So it’ll be once that’s done and I’ve had a little nap. Close enough.)

Meantime, here’s Roger Ebert’s Jim Emerson’s (thanks, Vidiot!) list of 102 Movies You Must See before you can have any sort of informed discussion about movies. I know I’ve seen 72 of them. There are 5-6 more that I may have seen, but would have to find my old film class syllabi in order to know for sure. Guess I’ve got some movies to check out.

MKE to CHI for only $5

Wednesday, April 19th, 2006 | You Call This News? | 2 Comments

Fantastic news: Megabus.com has come to Chicago. Right now you can only get to Chicago from Milwaukee on it, but once you’re in Chicago, you’ve got 7 other Midwestern cities to choose from. And here’s the best part: Tickets are running anywhere from $1 to $8 each way for the Mke-Chi route right now. $8! It’d cost you more in gas and tolls to drive there!

Reservations for tickets are online-only. Service runs from the Milwaukee Amtrak station (where the CoachUSA picks up outside) to Union Station in Chicago. Doesn’t really help the folks going from here to O’Hare, unless you don’t mind doing the Mke-Union Station-El blue line out to the airport thing, but for anyone trying to get downtown for something, it’s a huge savings. I hope it’s wildly successful.

Thanks to OnMilwaukee.com for the tip.

‘Coz I love the puzzles

Tuesday, April 18th, 2006 | Fun With Teh Intarweb | No Comments

I’m still a little ticked off about the casting of the DaVinci Code movie (I mean, come on — Tom Hanks? WTF?), but that doesn’t mean I won’t play movie-related puzzles on Google.

The first two puzzles are up already. The second one’s kinda weak, but I’m assuming they’re starting us off early and working up more challenging puzzles.

Best Easter Ever.

Oh, man. All my holidays should be as good as yesterday. My day, in a nutshell: Had some toast, did a load of laundry, did some dishes, refrained from doing any other work of any kind, ate snacky food all day, hung out with the cats, played around online, watched as much Law & Order and Dirty Harry movies as I could fit into one day, read a little, enjoyed the silence of an empty apartment building, spent the day in jammie pants.

Lazy, lazy, lazy. It was lovely.

Except for the part where today I’m feeling a little guilty for wasting an entire day and not finishing a bunch of things I need to do. But that’ll pass.

Relief!

Friday, April 14th, 2006 | Life in Czeltistan | 3 Comments

Got a call from the vet a little bit ago. Normy made it out of her surgery — sans 3 teeth, which it turned out were broken and hence, infected — a little while ago and is recovering nicely. She’s done with hard food for the rest of her furry little life, but she’s ok otherwise. (Or, rather, will be soon.) And her x-rays all came back normal — no tumors or anything. Doesn’t help to explain the wonky digestive issues, but it’s a relief nonetheless. Gonna be a long weekend of achy kitty, but at least the worst part is over. (And now, for the second-worst part: Me getting the bill.)

Add to that good news the part where I got more of my project done at work this week than I thought I would, and it’s looking like it’s going to be a lower-stress weekend. Hooray! I’m avoiding Easter things this year, so that gives me an entire Sunday to do with as I please (unless what I please is to go shopping, in which case I’m s.o.l.). I so can’t wait.

Special thanks also to Mother Nature for giving me a sunny, 70-degree afternoon for my half day off. Very nice of you. I think I’ll take a walk.

So have a lovely weekend, all. Enjoy your Easter or Passover or regular ol’ weekend. Catch you Monday.

The Two-Minute Haggadah

A funny story: Once, these five rabbis talked all night, then it was morning. (Heat soup now.)

Oy! Fat monkeys!

Monday, April 10th, 2006 | You Call This News? | No Comments

It’s that time of year again at the zoo: when the monkeys get fat and lazy thanks to Orthodox Jews.

I notice no one’s bringing the monkeys Passover Cokes, though. Tsk. Speaking of which, I need to stage a raid on my local Passover Coke-friendly grocery store and get my yearly stash.

Bits & Pieces

Ok. I lied. I found you all some nice links to play with:

- The Hall of Panflutists: Scary. Very, very scary. There are just too many of them.

- Pictures of baby animals: Awww. Teh cuteness! (I’m ignoring the baby Ewok. That’s just not right.)

- Vote for the world’s ugliest dog: Not teh cuteness.

- Laser Monks: Sadly, they don’t have laser-beam eyes or lasers instead of hands. But if you need printer supplies, these Wisconsin monks will sell them to you.

- The Weird Fortune Cookie Collection: For all your slightly bizarre fortune needs. (K-Co, did you get this one, by chance?)

(Most linkety goodness courtesy of the Presurfer and J-Walk Blog.)

Not dead yet

I’m still actually among the living, just among the kind of stressed-out, very busy living. Sorry I’ve been neglecting you all. You know I still love you. Well, most of you. (All you bastards who keep trying to leave me massive amounts of comment spam are so not in on the love fest.)

I’ll hopefully have more goodies posted for you soon. Meantime, you can amuse yourself with photos from yesterday’s Peep Show.

Nihilist Job Résumé

You just know the job interview would include the phrase “Ve vant ze money, Lebowski.”

Extra bonus: He uses one of my favorite words (“sheeple”) in the document. Nice one!

Ok. Taxes are filed.

Now to finish the website I’m cranking on at work. The one that I started Monday afternoon and that launches on Friday. Whee!

And then — sleep. And maybe try to make up an entry for the Peep Show on Sunday. I’ve got my idea. Just haven’t had time to go get Peeps and make it.

Happy b-day, Mac!

Apple Computers turns 30 today. Wired.com’s got some great pictorials on Apple history, from products to OS interfaces to ads to rabid fans.

Gee, I have no idea what they’re talking about on that last item. Nope. None at all.
