He’s a rock star and a video star

John Deerlick sent me a link to a charming little video by the band The Buddyrevelles, starring everyone’s favorite Milwaukee rock star, Dave Deerlick.

Next time I see Dave, I’m so gonna make him re-enact that scene with the eggs.

Good Eats

I was browsing through some of the blogs on and found a posting about a RoadFood reviewer “eating his way through Milwaukee” on a weekend visit. Man, they weren’t just kidding. Just reading about eating that much food is making me sleepy (though his photos are making me kind of hungry). But he managed to hit some good spots, and he’s right — this is a helluva food town. We may not be overrun with top-of-the-line fancy-shmancy restaurants, but if you’re looking for good, everyday eats, you can’t do much better than Milwaukee.

Went to a little shindig last night to watch the NH primaries and eat free pizza (my mayor is teh awesome for throwing the party). Got in the car to go home. Everything was fine until I tried to make my first left turn and got a lovely rubbing/scraping noise coming from the right front wheel. I pulled over, but thanks to it being dark and raining, I couldn’t see what the trouble was. So I limped home using as few left turns as possible. (I even did the ‘three rights instead of a left’ thing at one point, ‘coz I was that focused on not making the damage worse.)

Took the car in to the shop this morning. They came out and looked at it. Found a new dent in the right front corner of the car, low on the frame (WTF?? Where did that come from?? Thanks, whomever doinked my car). The dent pushed the covering on the inside of the wheel well out of its normal spot, causing my tire to rub on it whenever I turn left.

So, thankfully, it’s nothing terribly serious. Just annoying. But really — enough with the car issues. They’re eating into the Czelt’s vacation fund, and that’s not cool

Update: Car is now ok, and it only cost me $24 ($28, if you factor in bus fare for the day).

Huh. Go figure.

We’ve got tornadoes. (Well, by “we,” I mean “Racine & Kenosha,” which are the two counties south of us. I’m fine.)

In January.

Weather Service says it’s only the second time since they began keeping records in 1844. (Last one was in 1967.)

Oh, happy day

Last week Sunday, I went out to go shoot some photos in Riverside Park. Stopped at the corner stop-n-rob to get a paper on the way.

Shortly after heading down the path to the park, I noticed I didn’t have my favorite ring on my hand. I was 99% sure I had put it on earlier that day. I retraced my steps at least twice. When I couldn’t find my ring, I thought that maybe I had forgotten to put it on. Went on with my hike and my photos, but took one last look around on the way out of the park. Nothing.

Stopped back in at the convenience store on the way home. Nothing.

Went home. No ring there, either. Began to feel a little sick.

Went back to the park the next day to search again, despite an extra dusting of snow overnight. Still nothing.

So today, on my way home from some errands, I was driving by Riverside. It’s pretty warm today, so a lot of the snow is melting. Figured I’d give it one more shot. At the very least, I could say I’d done my best to find it.

I didn’t have much hope. A lot of people go down the path where I thought I’d lost it, and it’d been a week. Furthermore, the path is alongside a school, and classes have been back in session all week. But I started searching anyhow.

And there it was.

I did a double take, grabbed it to make sure it was real, looked around to make sure no one was watching and then did a little dance.

My ring! My lost ring. It’s home! That just made my entire week.

Dance Party Friday!

Dance Party Friday

I’ve got nothing, except to say that I can’t decide if I’m horribly embarrassed for them, or if this may just be the greatest news team ever.

Thanks, Mosey. You always find the weirdest shit.

Update: A link to the YouTube version of it, for those of you having trouble with the station’s player.

Lunch decision: Made

The Suburpia on Prospect is finally open (just a little later than they anticipated). Noticed the big “Now Open” sign on my drive home last night. I have to run over to St. Mary’s on my lunch hour for OT today, which puts me two convenient blocks away from my first Miles Standish in years.

Gettin’ hungry just thinking about it. Mmmm.

Update: OMG. Every bit as tasty as I remember.

A note…

To Charlie Tennessen, formerly of the Paradise Theatre, wherever you are:

Dr. Zhivago is on right now. As is my custom when I stumble across the movie, I’m watching it. It’s somehow not the same, though, without someone questioning why I’d sit through a sappy, 3+ hour film again.

Thinking of you and missing the theatre.
