Hello, Coudal Partners visitors

Thursday, October 2nd, 2008 | Uncategorized | No Comments

If I’d have known you were coming, I’d have cleaned up a little. Make yourselves at home, have a cocktail (speaking of cocktails, you’ll find them in that Cocktailians link over on the right, and don’t mind my language. (As someone once pointed out to me, if I had a little blue cap, I’d fit right in with the longshoremen.) I’ll pop into the kitchen and see if I can find something for you to snack on.

(And thanks to Coudal for picking up the Gothtober link. Some folks I know put a lot of work into that and I’m happy to drive a little extra traffic their way.)

This year’s Gothtober calendar has launched. Get your daily dose of Halloween-y goodness.

(Fair warning: sound. Use your headphones if’n you’re gonna bug someone who’s actually trying to work.) (And, yes, that’s Thriller.)

Banned Books Week

Once again, it’s Banned Books Week. The ALA has several good lists of frequently challenged books. Look through them, pick one or more and give ‘em a whirl. Make the closed-minded people nervous.

I try to read at least one banned book a year. This year, I re-read Flowers for Algernon and I’m in the middle of Catch-22. Brave New World’s on the docket. Just haven’t gotten to it yet.

The 20th Century was all in color

I’ve been adding more scanned family photos lately, most of the black & white variety, so this set of pre-1962 color photos found on Flickr made my day. The one of the NY cab passing the diner and dress maker’s truck is especially lovely. I’m quite smitten with that one. And the image of the fellow on the streetcar, cocktail in hand, makes me smile.
