Well, ok, if everyone else is doing it

Got this from …the average bear who got it from someone else, who got it from someone else, etc, but it seemed like something to do.

Take the list of IMDb’s Top 100 movies, bold the ones you’ve seen.

So, here’s the list. I’ve only missed 19 of them. Arguments can be made that I watch too many movies, but you all need to remember I was a film minor. Some films were required. ‘Course, that doesn’t mean that I didn’t watch ‘em again on my own sometime. Also, sadly, no extra points given for multiple viewings.

Hmm, I think I beat you, I am missing like five or six here. Actually my beloved father got The General so I’ll be checking it out before the week is out.

It’s weird though. You have to wonder how maqny films one has seen. Like, all the crap like Daredevil that makes it onto none of these lists, but are still fairly ubiquitous.

Hrrrm.

Looks like I have some serious movie watching to do. I have only seen 55 of the 100 top films. Only problem is, many of the ones on that list that I haven’t seen, I really have no desire to see. Oh well.

It’s an interesting list. I’m not going to count how many I’ve seen (at least not here), but I’d guess I’ve seen under half.

The problem with a list like iMDB’s top 100 is the subjectivity involved. I know they have a way of playing with the data, but NO WAY is The Shawshank Redemption 2nd best. In my opinion, it’s not even top-100 material. Good, yes. But not great. I also take issue with the three Lord of the Rings movies occupying three places in the top ten.

Also important is the question of why we rate movies highly. Star Wars is a bad movie in terms of story craft and direction, but it’s also probably one of the 5 most influential movies ever. Raiders of the Lost Ark is a far superior movie, but not nearly as influential.

What? You haven’t seen Nemo? After the Little Mermaid I thought for sure … Must see!!
