My favorite holiday

Happy Groundhog Day, everybody!

Hands down, this is my favorite holiday. It’s got everything you could possibly want in one: It’s purely seasonal (as opposed to religious), it’s got a furry little rodent, and it takes place during winter.

Phil says 6 more weeks of winter. (That’s my boy!) I don’t think Wanda at the Milwaukee County Zoo will say the same. It’s a little on the overcast side here today. Of course, that’s ‘coz we’re expecting snow… for the next three days.

So, if Goundhog Day has arrived, where are the chess pies?

We would like to see P.Phil bite the individuals who handle him every year.

Thanks

What in the hell is a chess pie? You can imagine that if one does not know, one is utterly confused and a touch disgusted, yes?

Chess pies are kinda like pecan pie… if the pecan pie didn’t have pecans and consisted solely of the stuff the pecan pie topping is made of. They’re fabulous.

My mom’s aunt stole the recipe from some nice society family in Boston way back in the day. (And yes, I mean “stole.”)

chess pies are made with walnuts instead of pecans and have different spices (than pecan pie), brown sugar etc. The are made as individual pies.

More winter… yippee! It was 71-degrees here that day. Brrr!
