How to suddenly feel elderly

Wednesday, March 9th, 2005 | Life in Czeltistan

Last night I ran into a guy I used to work with on the sports desk of the first paper at which I worked. We did a little catching up and then promptly felt very old when we realized it was 16 years since I’d left there.

That can’t be right. I’m not old enough to have left a job 16 years ago. Especially not one I worked at for two years.

Oh, wait…

Ah, crap. I’m getting old.

Cheer up! It’s not like you’re so old that bones are starting to get brittle and break… Oh, um, nevermind ;)

I suppose it wouldn’t be much solace if I pointed out that gas
was 27.9 cents per gallon when you were born, huh? Cheer up –
I’m not sure gasoline was invented when I was born…

You’re not that old, really. You’ll know you’re finally over the hill when you keep forgetting… uh, you keep forgetting… erm, what were we talking about again?

Maybe you wanna reconsider that proposal before it’s too late?
