And the insanity begins

Busy weekend, leading to a busy week, leading to an even busier weekend. (I’ll sleep in September.)

Saw the new Jim Jarmusch film, Broken Flowers, this weekend. Really liked it, although there was one dinner scene in it that gave me the fremps something fierce. I so badly wished I could sneak into the film for a moment and create a diversion that’d help Bill Murray’s character escape the situation. ‘Course I would have had to stop laughing long enough to do it.

In the lobby after the show, a group of women passed me on their way back from the bathroom. One of them gestured to the poster for the film and said, “I guess I’ll have to see more of his films so I finally get this one.” Her friend replied, “Yeah. Maybe I’m just too old for this.” Uh, lady, you’re younger than Jarmusch. And really, there’s not that much to get. Everything you needed to know about the film was pretty much there. I’m sorry he didn’t spell everything out for you. Perhaps you’d like this nice Jerry Bruckheimer film instead. *sigh*

Christyl and I also attended the last stop on the Dan Franke Farewell Tour this weekend — a Brewers game and tailgate party. The Brewers didn’t fare too well, but the rest of us had a fine time. Photos from the day can be found here.

And, of course, this week is Irish Fest. If you find yourself on the grounds during the weekend, please do stop by the Leinie’s rock stage merchandise area and say hi. Plenty of great music going on this year for the 25th anniversary, including Danu, Hothouse Flowers and Black 47. Lots of contests going on, as well, and the raffle’s especially good this year. (Yay for anniversaries!) If you’re interested in seeing Pres. McAleese while she’s in town, I believe she’ll be giving a speech on the Aer Lingus stage at 3pm on Saturday. (I really should learn to pay more attention at the meetings, but I’m 99% sure that’s when it is.) Oh, and if you’ve ever volunteered at the Fest, stop by the Clan Reunion area. Fest volunteers are this year’s “clan”. And as always, if you’re looking to get in free, there’s free admission from 4-5pm on Friday or with a non-perishable food donation at the mass on Sunday.

As it’s the festival week, posting around here will likely be pretty light. I’ll check in when I can.

ACK! IRISH FEST. Maybe that’s why I’m having such a bitch of a time finding a hotel room in Milwaukee this weekend.

Yeah. Irish Fest and some gospel convention and…um… yeah, some other convention thing. It’s bad enough that the fest had to move a bunch of people out to a hotel in Waukesha until Saturday. You’re probably better off hitting up friends who have a spare room.

I really had my heart set on making it to the Fest this year, after my pal Diesel’s glowing reports of last year. What he could remember of it anyway…

Have a good one and don’t let all the newfound power go to your head, missus. :-)
